Construction on
Station 53 was started in the fall of 2000 and completed with the opening in the
summer of 2001 at 850 S. Mullinix Road. The official grand-opening and
dedication ceremony was held on October 8, 2001 before a large crowd of
community supporters. The building was many years in the works with taking
nearly a year to design and with land actually being purchased in the late
1980's. The building serves not only as a fire station, but as the
department's headquarters building, housing nearly all of the department's
offices. The building is also host to a large community room that is used
by several area community groups and organizations. Today, the building
serves a portion of the fire district that is fast-becoming one of the
district's quickest growing areas in terms of new homes, businesses, and general
population.
