The department has
decided to move the Tanker to Station 52 but Chief Wilson has written a memo
suggesting the Tanker stay at Station 53.
ii.
Station 53 will
then have the Tanker, TSU and the Decon Trailer.
1. By having all three of these vehicles at one
location, 5 people minimum staff located at Station 53 will not be enough.
2. The department could send two on the Tanker and leave
three back but when the Tanker goes to Perry the crew usually works and if the
Tanker goes to
3. The idea looks good on paper but the Station would
need a minimum of six people.
4. Perry is currently re-doing zones and WR gets
disregarded most of the time.
a. 69% of the runs over the last five years have been to
Perry to which Chief Slauter stated that most get disregarded (not sure of the
number on that)
iii.
Chief Cassin
suggests leaving the plan in place for now.
He stated that the memo looks good and brings up several points.
1. Chief Slauter stated that he discussed each point
with Chief Wilson and with each valid point there was an equally valid counter
point and they both agreed to go with the new plan at this time.
iv.
Chief Slauter’s main issue with moving the
Tanker is how to get all three out if not enough people located at the station.
1. Five people are needed for the Decon Trailer without
the Tanker.
v.
Chief Thacker
states that the department needs to set up for WR runs and not worry about
Perry or
1. The largest trailer park is now in 52’s district.
2. There are good reasons stated in the memo but we need
to set up for our district.
3. He also believes that when we send mutual aid it is
best to have at least four guys.
vi.
The decision is
to leave the Tanker for now and see how it is going to work. If things are not working then we can make a
change later.
i.
Chief Brown
stated that everyone is changing their sprinkler heading to Stortz.
1. Some property owners do not want to change but the
expense is negligible and they are easier to use
2. Male 2 ˝ Stortz into the wall before putting the
Stortz fitting on.
ii.
Approximately 13
buildings need to be retrofitted.
iii.
Chief Brown
asked if it affects the SOG and Chief Slauter stated that it does not because
it is not specific.
iv.
The question is
if we take our funds and change would we have to maintain them or would that
fall on the property owner.
1. From the point of replacement it would fall on the
property to take over.
2. The district would be able to pressure most into
changing but there are always a few that would not cooperate.
v.
The other issue
is the Steamer fittings on hydrants.
1. Chief Thacker stated that he saw the Stortz
connection on hydrants in Lawerence and Fishers and asked if it is cheaper to
use that.
2. Maybe we could get some switched over now and it
would be easier.
vi.
Chief Cassin
asked if everyone is suing Stortz why have the standard thread.
vii.
Chief Brown
stated that as far as new developments the district could require them to install
them.
1. Chief Brown asked how much problem it would be to put
the connection on.
viii.
Chief Slauter
stated that if it is our money the department would be cheaper to just buy the
fitting than to retrofit all of the hydrants.
1. There are 1280 hydrants with Bargersville.
2. The water company does not have a problem with the
new hydrants with Stortz connection.
ix.
At this point
Chief Cassin believes the time saved by the new hydrant would be lost on
spinning the adaptor off so unless all the hydrants are the same it would not
make a difference.
x.
Chief Brown
suggests that sometime down the road someone should write a grant to get the
money to retro fit all the hydrants.
xi.
At this time the
district is going to stick with putting them on the sprinklers and push the
property owners to change their connections
1. 5” to 2 ˝” will have to be careful.
2. SOG stays the same.
xii.
Chief Slauter
asked if the connection is big enough for 5” connection. Chief Brown says that is fine, it changes to
PVC once it leaves the riser.
1. The majority of the commercial are 6” or 4”. Exceptions are the schools with a stage
connection and that is not worth the effort.
xiii.
The decision is
to leave the hydrants alone for now and take care of the sprinklers.
i.
Chief Thacker

yet.
3. Meeting with Frizzell on Tuesday at 1:00 to discuss
funding issues.
a. One issue is the department cannot keep PT, keeping
staffing levels constant is difficult.
b. The issue is not equipment or facilities but staff
and future growth.
c. Perry was the only ones able to get emergency loans.
i.
Shouldn’t get
loans for personnel
d. Frizzell is currently getting pounded because of
property tax.
e. Possibility of doing away with townships. (92
counties = 500 cities and towns)
f.
Chief Thacker

ii.
