- Chief
Thacker stated that the vacant Prevention position would be addressed at
Tuesday night’s District Board Meeting.
When this position was created several years ago we did not have
Captains. This position will now be
filled with an appointed Captain, as was originally intended before other
circumstances prevented that. Chief
Thacker spoke with Jim Dodson about this and he does not seem to have any
major issues with it. We will be
promoting from within and we already have one Captain who is willing to go
from Merit to Appointed. If this is
approved Tuesday night, Chad Witham is next on the Engineer’s list and
will take his physical on 12/9.
- After
discussion it was agreed that Chief Slauter would investigate adding
extrication equipment to Engine 53.
- Lt.
Hart gave several reports for the EMS Division:
a. New
protocols will be coming out due to changes from the American Heart
Association.
b. We
will also be receiving anti-nausea drugs soon.
c. Pulse
oximeters are no longer considered a BLS skill and any EMT found
performing this will now be in violation of state law.
d. AEDs are coming in soon.
- Chief
Thacker suggested adding the Ladder and the Engine to PI responses in
station 53’s district. Chief Tibbetts
requested that Chief Slauter investigate why the rescue was not sent on a
run last week, after it was requested by the Battalion Chief. Then a decision will be made regarding
response changes.
- Chief
Tibbetts stated that the 911 committee will be meeting with the County
Council on Monday night and requested anyone that is available to
attend. Chief Tibbetts asked that
Chief Slauter provide him with all of the incident reports from our people
regarding problems with dispatch so that he has proof that changes need to
be made in that area.
- Policy
discussions:
a. Chief
Cassin discussed and assigned job description policies. Please get these returned by the next senior
staff meeting.
b. Problems
with the tobacco use policy. Chief
Tibbetts will have Kim issue a memo on this.
c. Discipline
policy discusses a pre-termination hearing.
This needs to be removed or revised for just full-time personnel.
d. No
changes to sexual harassment policy.
Chief Tibbetts asked Chief Thacker to schedule another training session
on this asap and stated that
he is surprised that we haven’t had one filed yet.
e. No
changes to grievance policy.
f.
Chief Cassin will begin drafting a policy that makes
the department a tobacco-free workplace.
g. Chief
Engmark presented a policy regarding flag use that was drafted by Lt.
Williams. After changes were discussed,
Chief Engmark will make the corrections and forward to Kim to be placed into “policy
format”.
