- The
awards banquet has been scheduled for January 21 at 6:30 p.m. at Pauly’s. There will
be a vote taken closer to the date through the internet as to what the
buffet will be.
- Part
time process update: 40 applications
went out, 26 tested, and 21 interviews were scheduled. We are still hiring for 8 spots. Chief Thacker suggested an “academy”
with the next process and a 2nd interview of the top ten or so
finalists.
- Three
part time personnel still need to get their physicals,
otherwise that process is complete for this year. Chief Cassin commended Chief Thacker on
coming in under budget.
- Ten
people have been selected for the honor guard. (Scholl, Kindred, Russell, B.Arkins, Carman, Meacham, Brooks, Engmark, and two
others) October 13
is the first meeting. Chief Engmark asked that they be allowed
to present at the Awards Banquet.
- Policies
discussed and finalized today were:
Vehicle Operations, Apparatus Inspection Leave, Union Leave, and
Education Leave. Station coverage
and mutual aid coverage policy presented by Chief Slauter for discussion
at the next senior staff meeting. Chief
Tibbetts has not had time to work on the discipline and grievance policy.
- At FEMA’s request, we cut our number of handhelds on the
radio grant from 61 to 46. From
what they have told us, they will most likely fund this.
- Chief
Tibbetts reminded everyone that he is on the E-911 committee which meets
every two weeks. They are currently
reviewing expenses.
- Chief
Tibbetts stated that he will be attending the I-69 meeting in Martinsville on
Tuesday.
- Chief Meredith
& Jack Sandlin both called to apologize for recent incidents between
our agencies. Ray would like to
meeting with Chiefs Tibbetts and Thacker.
- Training
next week is cancelled due to Fire Prevention Week activities. Dedicated apparatus will remain out of
service unless a working incident occurs.
- Chief
Brown stated that he has heard recent complaints from local contractors
regarding water supply and access. Just
a reminder that these items must be made available to the fire department
during construction. The code
already requires it but some departments/officials choose not to enforce
it. If you are asked why it’s
important, please explain why.
