  1. Chief Thacker introduced Brian Kazmierak…from Clay Township Fire Department and is here to discuss accreditation.
    1. Commission on International Fire Accreditation.
    2. His department began the process in 1995.
    3. 96 accredited in the world.  In Indiana, only Fishers & Clay (1st), but three more are pursuing (Carmel, Perry & Wayne).
    4. Whoever is in charge of this process needs to be ONE person who is upwordly mobile and forward thinking in the fire service.  They also need to have lots of experience in as many aspects of the fire service as possible.
    5. Must meet all “core criteria” to become accredited.
    6. 255 performance indicators that must be met.
    7. Strong area is risk assessment.
    8. “Standards of Coverage” – important document that assesses response times for fire, ems, haz mat, and technical rescue.

1)      Dispatch processing times are seriously considered.  Nationwide standard is 60 seconds.

2)      Turnout times are evaluated.

3)      Travel times are also evaluated, but the department has less control over this.

4)      Set in-house standards on fractiles.

5)      On fire responses, total complement time is evaluated.

    1. Re-accreditation occurs every five years.  This is easy, as long as everything is maintained from the first accreditation process.
    2. Annual report to be submitted, showing progress.
    3. Flawless documentation is a MUST!!
    4. $4000 for the process, plus pay to bring assessors in.  For Clay Township, it was approximately $8,000 total.  Annual cost is 1/5 of what you initially paid, in order to retain the accreditation.
    5. ISO

1)      Adopting standards of coverage in to their plan

2)      Points for having strategic plan.

3)      Removing some of their own standards.

4)      Rumor has it that ISO will allow 2 points to their system.

    1. Get to the classes asap.

1)      Basic self assessment

2)      Standards of Coverage

3)      Peer assessor (optional)

    1. Approx. $450 per student
    2. Strategic plan would be priority #1, as well as objectives
