Senior Staff Meeting Minutes October
17, 2001
Present: Chief Tibbetts, Chief Cassin, Chief Slauter,
Lieutenant Settles, Lieutenant Wilson, and Kim Clawson. Also present:
James Engmark.

Meeting called to order at 1400 hours.
- Note
to Battalions: when scheduling your
personnel off, please make appropriate entries in the Battalion Log.
- Mailboxes
for career personnel are now in the reception are at station 53 authority
Chief Tibbetts. Please remove items
from existing mailboxes in break room.
Please do not use new mailboxes as a storage area as they are
plastic and easily broken.
- We
have a new benefits advisor, Jeannie Salin, who will be working with Jeff
Stainfield.
- Comp
book issues:
-
Note “comments” under the red triangle for PA and PL
days.

Do not go back and change a pay period after it has
been passed.

Do not add comp or regular hours for something you
haven’t done yet.
- After
January 1st, Senior staff meetings will be conducted after the
2nd regular staff meeting and will include all District
personnel.
- The
“retreat” has been moved from January 4 to December 14th (B
Shift). Everyone is expected to
bring their ideas for a 10 year plan, as well as personal and professional
goals that they would like to accomplish next year. Also, they are to bring their list of
goals that were not met this year, as well as reasons why. There will also be review and discussion
on administrative and operational issues.
- Conditional
offers of employment have been extended to James Engmark, Kevin Skipper,
Casey Arkins and Mark Andrews. The
PERF process begins and the physical agility will be scheduled soon.
- When
you go on vacation or on a leave, please make sure someone from your
division is able to handle any questions or problems that arise in your
absence.
- Chief
Tibbetts explained rules regarding use of take home staff vehicles. A new policy will be issued soon. All Battalion Chiefs will get a take
home vehicle. They will be expected
to respond to all working incidents unless it is their full weekend off
duty (Sat – Sun). When they are on
leave or vacation, their vehicle will be brought to station.
- Chief
Tibbetts stated that he will not tolerate any bad mouthing of another
person on this department, whether career or corporation. This is not to be allowed by
anyone. If you have any problems,
see Chief Tibbetts.
- Chief
Tibbetts stated that while it is not required or mandatory, he would
appreciate the District Employees making every possible effort to attend
District Board Meetings. Please do
not get into a confrontational situation with any of them, especially
during a public meeting. We need to
try
- Chief
Slauter addressed the issue of the Battalion Chiefs running as the Medic
or going on Mutual Aid runs as the Medic.
- Chief
Tibbetts stated the he will be drafting a policy soon regarding taking
leave during holidays.
- Chief
Slauter requested that there be consistency between shifts and that the
Battalion should not go on EVERY run, only those that sound ALS. He stated that there are additional
Paramedic concerns that need to be addressed in a Paramedic meeting. He will be contacting Lt. Alexander to
set this up.
- On medical
mutual aid runs and Engine 53 is BLS, send R51 or E52. Questions were also asked as to why we
are not billing for Morgan County ALS assists. Chief Slauter stated that this was one
of the items that would be addressed at the next Paramedic meeting.
- Chief
Tibbetts will be releasing a memo to all District Employees regarding
attending Senior Staff meetings.
- Lieutenants
Settles, Alexander and Wilson will be taking part in the NIFS fitness
course November 5th – 9th.
- Reminder
again that we are having problems with conflicting events (ie: public
education during training).
- Lieutenant
Settles requested that only licensed personnel be allowed to perform any
type of electrical work at our stations.
He stated that there is now a constant hum in the speakers at
station 51.
- Discussion
on disallowing the use of blue lights on employee POVs. This item tabled until the next senior
staff.
- Chief
Tibbetts, Chief Slauter and Lt. Settles will be implementing a no tobacco
policy effective January 1st.
