Senior Staff Meeting Minutes                                                                                           September
18, 2001
 
 
 
Present:                Chief Tibbetts, Chief Brown, Chief Thacker, Lieutenant
Settles, Lieutenant Wilson, Carey Slauter and Kim Clawson.

Meeting called to order at 1300 hours. 
 
 - Chief
     Tibbetts stated that anyone experiencing heavy stress after the recent
     terrorist strikes on America
     should let him know immediately. 
     Don’t try to deal with it on your own.
 
 - Engine
     53 was found to have had the pump grounded wrong and almost caught
     fire.  Stoops is fixing the problem
     and the truck should be in service by Fire Prevention Week.
 
 - Chief
     Tibbetts reminded everyone to be in their white button up shirt with all
     appropriate brass.  If you are
     missing something, get it replaced asap.
 
 - Lt.
     Alexander is moving the Zoll multiple-battery charger to station 51 and
     moving the single charger to station 53.
 
 - Chief
     Tibbetted directed Lt. Alexander to place an EMS
     supply cabinet at station 53.  Drugs
     will stay at station 52.  Lt.
     Settles will maintain station 51’s cabinet, Lt. Alexander will maintain
     station 52’s and the Battalion Chiefs will maintain station 53’s.
 
 - Chief
     Tibbetts stated that he would be requesting Brian Bosma contact EMAS to
     have “White River
      Township” removed
     from one of their ambulances.
 
 - District
     employee mailboxes will be moved to the front office area in an effort to
     make them more secure.
 
 - Pay
     and vacation:
-         
Longevity raise will be added into your salary on your
anniversary date, thus increasing your hourly wage.
-         
4% annual raise will add to your base salary only!
-         
When a BC goes on vacation, the LT will work for the
BC.  Other LTs can fill that open LT
position.
-         
If a BC goes on vacation, and there is no shift LT to
fill that vacancy, it will be opened to the other BCs.
-         
Ride out pay for LTs filling open BC positions will
start January 1st, 2002.
-         
Vacation requests should be received at least two weeks
in advance.
 
 - Discussion
     on “unit” commendations / personal recognition.  Lt. Wilson will follow up.
 
 - Discussion
     on Awards Banquet
 
 - Crew
     duty priorities should be checking out equipment and cleaning the
     stations, then and FD business (ie: computer work, etc.).
 
 - Chief
     Thacker presented a new education request form.
 
 - Lt.
     Alexander stated that there will be a new company handling our medical
     waste at all three stations.  They
     will train the house officer on how to properly package the waste.
 
 - Lt.
     Wilson received permission to move the offices into the watch room from
     the bunk room. Career offices will remain locked at all times.
 
 - Lt.
     Alexander stated that he is no longer certified as a CPR instructor but
     will be retaking the appropriate course soon.
 
 - Please
     do not give the Battalion Chiefs any extraneous information on the radio
     during a run.
 
 - Lt.
     Alexander was instructed to contact Community Hospital
     and find another option for us on SORs. 
     One of our engines recently had to wait over 70 minutes until the
     17 year old’s grandmother  could
     make it to the scene.  This took us
     out of service much longer than necessary. 
     Lt. Alexander stated that, as it is now, we are legally required to
     transport anyone under 18yo unless contact has been made with a  parent.
 
 - Chief
     Tibbetts approved a request from Lt. Settles that  Station 51 be allowed to purchase new
     lockers.  
 
 - Lt.
     Settles stated that he feels that station 51 is being “left out of the
     loop” on a lot of issues.
 
 - Clothing
     policy will be coming to the Chiefs for final approval.

     Tibbetts reminded everyone that it is extremely important to close and
     secure the stations when crews are not on station.
