6, 2001
Present: Chief Tibbetts, Chief Brown, Chief Thacker, Lieutenant
Settles, Carey Slauter and Kim Clawson.
______________________________________________________________________________________
Meeting called to order at 0900 hours.
- Chief
Thacker reported that the committee has completed the current BC & LT
hiring process. He will send a
letter to the candidates and explain that their name is on the list and give
the date that the list expires.
- Chief
Tibbetts stated that once we have hired the next Battalion Chief and
Lieutenant, he would like to meet again to re-create the 5 year plan, as
well as a 10 year vision.
- Chief
Tibbetts stated that the stations have been extremely dirty lately. The crews have been lax in doing the
duties and the officers have been lax in not enforcing that they get
done. This must stop immediately! Chief Tibbetts will issue a memo on
this.
- When
the four Lieutenants are hired in January, the Corporation will lose those
positions, resulting in a budget excess of officer stipends. Chief Tibbetts will be proposing that
the Corporation a lot that money to those personnel serving as shift officers
who are not officers.
- Chief
Tibbetts is working with Dan Maple regarding co-staffing a fire station at
the proposed government center.
- Station
51 sewer is still not completed.
Chief Tibbetts will be going to station 51 today to see what the
current hold up is.
- Steve
Swails is still working on the damage estimates for Engine 51.
- FEMA
contacted us last week wanting to know how our 10% matching contribution
was going to be funded. This came
approximately one week after we were requested to provide direct deposit
information to them. Therefore, we
are very confident that we have received the fitness grant.
- Chief
Tibbetts stated that with Chief Cassin’s background and education, he
feels that he would better serve the department in an Administrative
position. Therefore, in 2003 he
will try to move Chief Cassin into a M-F Administrative Chief’s position.
- Chief
Thacker stated that there would be no training this week due to the
extreme heat. Regular training will
occur as normal, and will cover Tanker Operations. He will be training at the house Tuesday
night with his Driver Operator class from C-9. He is planning on completely razing the
house Friday morning, rain or shine.
- Chief
Thacker stated that Rick Cooley has constructed a siphon dump that will be
very useful when two dump tanks are set up on a scene.
- Discussion
regarding high run responses to 697 S. Peterman Road, usually on lifting
assists. This location has taken
our crews out of service when other, ALS runs have been dispatched. This is unacceptable. Chief Tibbetts directed Chief Brown to
determine the number of times we have been there recently, and the nature
of the run, and then to contact Johnson County Adult Protective Services
if necessary.
