White River Township Fire Protection District
Senior Staff Meeting
April 24, 2000

=================================================================================

Present:  Chiefs Dutton, Tibbetts, Cassin, and Brown.  Lieutenants Alexander & Thacker.  Administrative Assistant Kim Clawson.

1.        Eric gave update on Station 53 project.  Terry Burnworth of Prince Alexander will be attending the District meeting Thursday evening to explain the recent obstacles that have been encountered.

2.        Chief Dutton introduced new shift exchange forms to be used by District personnel only.  He emphasized that trade time is to be used whenever possible to avoid overtime situations.  He stated that he is to approve all comp time/over time BEFORE it is accrued, unless in an emergency situation.

3.        We need to check with Kevin Skipper to see what the status is on the new Battalion vehicle.  The lease on our current truck ends May 14, 2000.

4.        Scott stated that utility companies will be marking the ground at station 52 over the next three days.  Once that has been completed, MPI will be called back out to determine a place for the tower.  Work will begin soon after.

5.        The new exhaust system for Aerial 52 should be installed this Wednesday.

6.        Chief Tibbetts is still working on the mutual aid SOG.

7.        Bruce stated that the new ALS protocols have been approved by Dr. Fried.  He will be getting copies to all department Paramedics, as well as on each ALS certified truck.  Medics need to go through a training course covering these new protocols before they will be allowed to work.  Bruce’s target date will probably be June 1st, will all training taking effect during May.  Watch for more information on this.

8.        We are having several problems getting shifts covered on C shifts.  This will be discussed further during staff meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday.

9.        Bruce stated that ALS equipment is not to be moved between apparatus.  The only truck at station 52 that is certified through the EMS commission is Engine 52.  Equipment should not be moved around so  the Aerial can be taken off station for training or lunch.  The only time that equipment can be moved to a non-certified truck is when the primary piece of apparatus is out of service and Bruce has notified the EMS commission.

10.     Eric will be conducting an investigators class this summer for senior staff.

11.     Eric mentioned that starting immediately, gas and electric utilities have been asked to be contacted whenever we have a fire, even if it seems to be small.  They want to disconnect their service until certified people can come out and inspect it and give the final okay to restore power.  Not calling them is a liability for both the utility company and the fire department.
