White River Township Fire Department

Senior Staff Meeting Minutes                                                                                           February 18, 1998

Meeting called to order at 1320 hours.  Present:  Chief Dutton; Division Chiefs Pell, Cassin and Brown; Administrative Assistant Kim Clawson

1.        Need to fill open Lieutenant’s positions.

Jeff Wilson, Casey Arkins, and Mike Shoemaker applied for the position of Reserve Lieutenant.  Jeff has been chosen to fill this vacancy due to his experience and training.  Chief Dutton will have a firm talk with Jeff to reinforce what his job duties are.  Once that understanding has been met, there will be no second chances.

Jeremy McKee, Mike Shoemaker, Chad Abel, and Andy Martindale applied for the position of Special Operations Lieutenant.  Chad has been chosen to fill this vacancy because of his current job at Fishers FD, his qualifications and experience.

Joe Settles and Bruce Alexander applied for the position of EMS Lieutenant.  Joe has been chosen to fill this vacancy because of his current status as a Battalion officer, availability, and instructor certifications.

2.        Eric’s attendance at this morning’s County Planning and Zoning meeting resulted in a significant developer (C.P. Morgan) being denied, by the commissioners, permission to build “Village Houses” in our fire district because we cannot provide significant fire protection.  This could result in widespread negative publicity if the media obtains this information.  Chief Dutton instructed Eric to initiate a report to the Fire Protection District Board explaining the sequence of events and asking for their direction as to how to proceed.

3.        Chief Dutton read aloud a  letter that he received from Butch Sutton.  In this letter, Butch thanked us for allowing them to attend the Goal Setting meeting and raised some concerns regarding addition of personnel for station staffing.  He also stated that there might potentially be a cash flow problem in April due to their loan assumption and the Build Indiana Fund.  He also stated that they would like to provide us with a description of their function as a District Board.  Eric mentioned, and everyone agreed, that we should seek out other District Boards which are aggressive and determine the procedures that they follow.  We should then take this information and explain to our District Board what we feel their function is.

4.        Chief Dutton addressed problems with station 2 C-shift personnel that have been occurring recently.  Division Chief Cassin will discuss this with the personnel involved and if a solution cannot be met, Chief Dutton will re-assign those personnel.

5.        No new business and meeting adjourned.
