White River Township Fire Protection District
Regular Staff Meeting
March 20, 2003  ~  1000 hours

=================================================================================

Present:    Chief Tibbetts
                Deputy Chief Cassin
                Battalion Chiefs Slauter and Young
                Lieutenants  Engmark, Arkins, Hart

             Administrative Assistant Kim Clawson.

=================================================================================

1.  Chief Cassin reminded everyone to please share information received in staff meetings to your personnel.  Don't forget those who work nights and weekends as well.

2.  Chief Cassin stated that he needed photos and bios from several officers.  They have been notified individually and a note was placed at the bottom of the agenda.  Please keep wording generic (ie:  Don't say "been in fire service 15 years".  Instead say "been in fire service since 1988".  We do not want to have to make changes to every bio every year to keep them current.)

3.  Chief Cassin gave details on what we are planning on doing for Greenwood Station 92 to show our appreciation for their support during station 52's rebuild.  Once the threat status lowers again, we will invite Greenwood 92 crews over for a steak dinner at station 52.  Plaques are also being made, one for their station, and one for the City of Greenwood.

4.  Chief Slauter stated that Chief Young has finalized the accountability tags and will be printing them out soon.  He also stated that we will be switching our regular photo id's to a more tamper-resistant hard plastic id.  Greenwood Fire has volunteered to do this for us.  We will be paying for the cards and submitting necessary information, along with photos.

5.  Chief Slauter gave an update on the Homeland Security and how it affects White River Township FD.  Guidelines were given to each officer present.  Things to keep in mind:
                    >  Orange:  Tours cancelled, lunches at schools on Thursdays cancelled, no non-fire department riders, keep
                        stations locked and bay doors down unless someone is in the bay, do not leave apparatus unattended.  Do
                        not compromise patient care to leave someone with the truck.  Call for a Battalion Chief or for police if
                        necessary.

                    >  Red:  All visitations cancelled, including family.  Auxiliary personnel are allowed to visit, but visits should be
                        limited.  Ask for photo ids of people you don't know.

                    >  Effective immediately, everyone should wear their photo id.  Do not be surprised if you are asked to leave a
                        scene if you don't have it, even if you are on a truck and in full uniform.  The police and other responding
                        agencies are taking the threat levels quite seriously.

                    >  Be sure to check your trucks after runs.  Check under and in all compartments.  If there is something
                        suspicious, notify the Battalion Chief IMMEDIATELY.

                    >  Be aware of everything that is going on around you, both when on station and out in the public.

6.  Chief Young showed examples of the new uniform t-shirts that will be made soon.  These are a much higher quality shirt, as is the screenprinting.  Chief Cassin reminded everyone that any item dealing with uniforms is to go through Chief Young and no one else.

7.  Chief Young stated that a Fitness Committee has been established and will be under the Health and Safety Division.  The Committee is led by Scott DeFord and consists of Lt. Alexander, Lt. Wilson, Lt. Settles and Jake Kocher.  Watch for more information on this as it becomes available.  He will be meeting with this committee as soon as possible.

8.  The current tactical will remain at station 53.  The new tactical will also be at station 53.

9.  Lt. Engmark will be issuing a memo regarding proper care of the fitness mats at station 52.

10.  Auth. Chief Young, there is to be no gear in any station beyond the apparatus bays.  This has always been in effect, but needs to be better enforced.

11.  Lt. Engmark thanked everyone for their help moving back into station 52.

12.  Lt. Hart gave an update on various outstanding building issues at station 52.  He requested, and was granted, permission to run a phone line for the fax machine to the front.  Chief Cassin stated that when the line was finished, he would install it at both ends.  Also, the keybox in Lt. Alexander's office will need to be moved to a more accessible location.  Chief Slauter said that he would go up today and unlock it so it could be removed.

13.  Effective immediately, there are to be no more food and drinks in the seating areas of the fire stations.

14.  Kim gave a brief update on the FEMA grant.  After discussion in the Senior Staff meeting, the Chiefs agreed that our biggest need that could be met by the FEMA grant at this time would be a video conferencing system for training, as well as miscellaneous other hardware and software items.

15.  Please be more diligent in keeping stations clean.
