Staff Meeting Minutes

December 18 & 19, 2001

 

Present During Tuesday’s Meeting:  Chief Tibbetts, Chad Witham, Steve Coover, Jason Arkins, Lieutenant Settles, Chief Cassin, Chief Brown, Tim Smith, Lieutenant Skipper, Mark Hart, Greg Maxwell, Lieutenant Rowland and Kim Clawson.

 

Present During Wednesday’s Meeting:  Chief Tibbetts, Dave Manlove, Ryan Cox, Jim Engmark, Andy Martindale, Jim Taulman, Don Young, Joe Settles, Carey Slauter, Scott Cassin, Scott Terry, Tony Slusher, Mike Schilling, Eric Brown, Nick Alford, Jeff Wilson, Josh Justice, Corey McGaha and Kim Clawson.

  1. Please use the battalion phone line to reach the on duty Battalion Chief.  888-2338.  Do not call the admin or crew lines. 

 

  1. It is the responsibility of the company officer to make sure reports are entered and verified.

 

  1. FireHouse Items

-         When you are entering a fire report, print it.

-         When you are entering an EMS report, print the EMS only.  Fire not needed.

-         Put narrative in patient report or cut and past to EMS narrative, patient narrative and fire narrative.

-         Any events which are occurring must be in Firehouse Journal.

 

  1. Status of CERT team will depend on the status and cooperation of the Johnson County Sheriffs Deparment SWAT team.

 

  1. Please check your Email frequently.  It is easier for Kim to communicate through emails than send a lengthy page to everyone.  Make sure she has your current email address.

 

  1. Budget Items

-         2001 budget is being closed out.

-         We will be receiving fire loan and BIF grant soon.

-         FEMA fire grant paperwork has been completed and we should be receiving that money 30-60 days.

 

  1. Chief Tibbetts discussed the planning retreat that the career personnel conducted Friday, December 14.

 

  1. Chief Tibbetts commended Lieutenant Rowland for organizing the toy drive at the Meijer store.  He also thanked those who worked the tables for that event.

 

  1. New uniform policy is effective January 1, 2002.  Old uniforms will not be allowed unless you are working out.  Also, there is to be no more FDNY apparel worn on duty.

 

  1. Recent personnel resignations include Ken Sickles, Chris Kindred, Brian Arkins and Megan Stoops.

 

  1. Mark Hart, currently the Corporation’s treasurer, reminded everyone of the upcoming Board of Director elections.  There are two positions whose terms will be expiring and must be voted on.  He stated that he will not be running for an office for the next term because he is accepting a trustee position with the Local 416 at Beech GroveFD.  He stated that he would help whoever the next treasurer is learn the books.

 

  1.  Mark also stated that the volunteer corporation purchased a 12-lead EKG for Engine 53.  When asked, he stated that this is not from the Strawberry Festival money, which has not yet been spent.  Instead, the Booster Club is funding the EKG.

 

  1.  Opticom is in service.  E53 and T53 – don’t turn on lights until parking brake is set.  Otherwise, will activate system.  North/South turns red and East/West turns green.  Lasts 20 seconds after activated.  If floodlights are off, you don’t have the intersection.  Use extreme caution at all times!  Records apparatus and the time activated.

 

  1. Chief Cassin thanked everyone for their cards and thoughts after the recent passing of his mother.

 

  1. Chief Slauter stated that company officers need to be more responsible.

-         Injury first report.

-         Crew checks.

-         Horseplay.

-         If there is non-compliance with crews, take to BC.

 

  1. Chief Slauter has spoken with John Asher requesting that dispatch give us subdivision names at the time of the dispatch.  They already do this for the Sheriff Deputies.  John says no problem.

 

  1. If you move equipment around between trucks, please keep a list.

 

  1. PM will be performed Thursday on the Phoenix tool.  E52 please drop equipment off at station 51.

 

  1. Lt. Alford requested that while reserves are riding, please take the time to teach them equipment and basic skills.
