White River Township Fire Protection
District
Pre-Meeting
Report for July 1, 2008
Compiled June 19, 2008
Old
Business
- The Station 53 sewer project is
progressing. I have discussed the
contract with the contractor. He
did not have any problems with the items we discussed. He is currently reviewing the contract
and placing us on his schedule. Construction
should begin shortly after the contract is signed by both parties.
- We have two very strong leads for the sale of
the Runyon Rd.
property. The bids will be opened
on June 30th at 2:00 p.m.
- No new information on the negotiation over JE
Mechanical’s contract.
- The bids were opened for the old Rescue 51. We received the following bids to
purchase the vehicle:
$80,000
$81,500
They were both responsive bids. I
will present the details at the meeting.
- We are continuing the work on transitioning the
TSU truck to a rescue truck. We
will present the quotes for the trailer and equipment when we get closer
to completing the initial work.
- I met with Barry Sullivan from St. Francis
hospital regarding property for Station 54. They are in a position to offer us
approximately 1.5 acres of property at Bluff Rd. and Fairview Rd. The initial
appraisal is $70,000 an acre. The price may increase slightly when
it is reappraised with city sewer. They are willing to offer it to
us at the appraised value. Either way, it is drastically cheaper
than the $400,000 piece of property we were originally investigating. I will recommend proceeding with the
legal work that needs to be done to secure that property.
- No new information on the ambulance
service. The Johnson County Fire
Chief’s Association is continuing to work with Rural Metro and the elected
officials to improve service.
- Steve Dyson and I have been working on
finalizing the budget based on the direction of the District Board at the
last meeting. Steve has emailed the
legal advertisement to me and the Board and will present the budget at the
meeting.
New
Business
- The flood response was a significant event for
our department. Fortunately we didn’t
receive quite the devastation that was received in other areas. I will say again that I am extremely
impressed with the response provided by our personnel. We had a significant number of off-duty
personnel respond. Not only did
they perform well during the storm, but the department has reached out to
the community after the storm. We
are a debris dumping site, an assessment application site, and firefighters
have even gone into the neighborhoods to serve food to the flood
victims. We are currently getting
final quotes to replace our equipment.
Claims have been compiled for both the insurance company and
FEMA. The repairs have been made to
Station 52 from the lightning strike and maintenance has been completed on
the vehicles. I will present the
quotes I have available for the replacement equipment at the meeting.
- The 2008 SAFER grant application is almost
complete. I contacted Chief Oran
True from the Brownsburg
Fire Territory. He has successfully received two SAFER
grants. I received some valuable
input from him. He also sent me his
successful grant as a model. Based
on that information, we decided to save the money approved for a grant
writer and write it ourselves.
Crystal and I have worked on it this week. We will submit it on Friday.
The next meeting is Tuesday,
August 5, 2008.
