Pre-Meeting Report for May 6, 2008

Compiled May 1, 2008

Old Business

  1. We have received three bids for the Station 53 sewer project.  The bids were as follows:

    $49,850
    $58,360
    $69,503

The original projection for this portion of the project was approximately $50,000-$60,000.  Chief Brown and I are in the process of reviewing the bids to make sure they comply with the engineering specs.

  2. I have continued to gather information regarding the Runyon Rd. property.  The residential appraisal was $130,000.  I contacted Johnson County Planning and Zoning.  According to them, rezoning is not a likely option to change it to a commercial zoning.  The mixed use variance applies to the owner, therefore whoever purchases the property would be the person to apply for that variance.  The good news is that I still have people interested in the property in addition to the original bidders.  The person that submitted the late bid for $100,000 is still interested, although I can’t guarantee what his new bid would be if we reopened the process.

  3. I contacted St. Francis Hospital regarding property for Station 54.  They are still interested in providing us with property.  They still haven’t given me a price.

  4. Tricia Leminger is working with JE Mechanical’s bond holder to determine the final payment due for the electrical work on Station 51.

  5. I will be presenting the proposal to convert the TSU to a Heavy Rescue truck.  We would sell the old rescue truck and use some of the funds to convert the TSU and replace one of the trailers.  The end result would reduce our fleet by one large vehicle and save the $670,000 currently in the cumulative fund for the purchase of a new Heavy Rescue truck.  I will provide more details at the meeting.

  6. The Johnson County Fire Chief’s Association has conducted several meetings to discuss ambulance service in Johnson County.  We don’t have a crisis currently, but the system is very fragile.  John Price from the Johnson County Council and Troy DeHart from the Johnson County Commissioners attended the last meeting to get an overview of the current ambulance service system.  I will provide an update to the District Board at this meeting.

  7. We did not receive the SAFER grant for personnel.  The rejection letter contained the standard “not enough available funds” wording.

    New Business

  1. Steve Dyson will be presenting an updated version of the fiscal plan along with a draft of the 2009 budget.  He will also discuss the property tax reform legislation and how it will affect our budget.

The next meeting is Tuesday, June 3, 2008.
