White River Township Fire Protection
District
Pre-Meeting
Report for April 1, 2008
Compiled March 26, 2008
I
will be out of town for the week of March 29th through April 5th on a
family mission trip with our church. I
will be available by cell phone and have limited access to email. Chief Thacker and Chief Slauter will be
representing the department at the April District Board meeting.
Due to the proximity of the meeting to the beginning of
the month, the financial reports will not be available until April 1st. Chief Cassin will email the reports when they
are complete.
Old
Business
- We did not receive any bids for the Station 53
sewer project. The invitation to
quote was sent to five contractors. They all indicated that they were aware
of the deadline and were interested in bidding. On the last day, one contractor withdrew
interest because his company was not big enough to complete the work. I will discuss our options with Tricia
Leminger.
- Bids for the Runyon Rd. property were opened on March
17th by Tricia and me. The
bids were as follows:
$37,300
$55,000
$66,500
We will present the bids at the April 1st District Board meeting. I have prepared a summary of our options
with the costs and net proceeds associated with each option. I have consulted with Tricia Leminger to
determine which options are legally possible. She is researching the options. The Senior Staff has discussed potential
uses for the station if we keep it.
Chief Thacker will present the information and answer questions.
- No new news on the property for Station 54
- We are still working with Senefeld and JE
Mechanical to finalize the last payment to JE Mechanical. Tricia Leminger is involved in
coordinating the final payment.
- The warranty work to Ladder 51 was
completed. The invoice has been
sent to the manufacturer for reimbursement.
- The Battalion Chief appointment process is
complete. There were two
applicants: Captain Mark Hart and Captain Kevin Skipper. Both candidates interviewed very
well. Captain Hart has more
qualifications and experience. Chief
Slauter and I will recommend that Captain Hart be appointed to the rank of
Battalion Chief.
- Rescue truck- We are not ready to make a
presentation yet. The initial information is very
promising. We have a used fire
truck dealer that made a tentative offer of $80,000 to purchase our
current rescue truck. I will place
it on agenda when we are fully prepared.
- Ambulance service- We are not ready to make a
presentation yet. I want to wait until we know the impact property
tax reform will have on our budget.
I will place it on agenda when we are fully prepared.
New
Business
- Chief Slauter and Crystal have been working on
the Assistance to Firefighters grant for turnout gear. If successful, the grant will bring us
into compliance with NFPA recommendations and provide employees with the rank
of Captain and lower with a backup set of turnout gear. Backup turnout gear is important so a
firefighter can continue to be in-service when his or her primary gear is
wet, damaged, or contaminated. The
grant will require a minimum of 10% matching funds. Chief Slauter will provide additional
information on the gear replacement cycle and the costs.
- Tricia Leminger’s
office is working on the additional appropriation in the 2008 budget for
the final payments on Station 51 and the Station 53 sewer project. We have budgeted $100,000 for the
Station 53 sewer project. The final
payments for Station 51 are as follows:
Steelcore retainage $117,000
Wasserstrom kitchen
hood system $27,000
M.G. Landscape landscaping $16,000
Indy Walls drywall $15,000
JE Mechanical electrical $13,000
Total $188,000
The total additional appropriation is $300,000.
The next meeting is Tuesday,
May 6, 2008.
