White River Township Fire Protection District

Pre-Meeting Report for September 4, 2007

Compiled August 28, 2007

  1. Chief Pell has completed all of his PERF obligations and has been fully approved to make the move.  He has already submitted his two-week notice to IFD and will be ready to begin here on Monday, September 10th.

  1. The entire Senior Staff met on August 16th for a full-day management retreat discussing several topics including future growth and strategies.  This was also the first official presence by Chief Pell, who addressed the staff at the beginning of the session.  He will have a brief update on what was discussed and any immediate impacts at the board meeting.

  1. We did unfortunately receive “the letter” from the Assistance to Firefighters Act Grant program stating that we were turned down for our request for ambulances.  They stated that they were only able to fund about 1/3 of this year’s 7,800 requests amounting to a total of $135 Million out of $1.8 Billion in requests.  We were not considered ‘needy’ enough to be considered this time around.  We are in the process of determining what the next step should be.

  1. We had hoped to have a substantial completion date come and go by this meeting, but it looks like it will not be the case with respect to the new fire station.  Not much progress has been made since the last meeting other than some incremental work involving the electrical contractor and overall clean-up of the building.  It appears we’re beginning to have some of the same issues (feet dragging) that Bargersville Fire Department incurred with getting the building from 99% complete to 100% complete.  A full report will be made at the District Board meeting.

  1. Legal counsel should have an update on the Bluff Road property acquisition project.

  1. Until we get a little closer on the expected move date for the new station, we are putting on hold moving forward with the sale of the Runyon Road property.

  1. We may have some pending internal job transfers in the works that the board may need to be made aware of.  We should know for sure by the time of the upcoming meeting.

  1. Well, that’s all for this month.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 2, 2007.
