White River Township Fire Protection
District
Pre-Meeting
Report for March 8, 2006
Compiled March 2, 2006
- The agreement between the City of Indianapolis and the
White River Township Fire Protection District regarding Indiana Task Force
One has been finalized. It has been
forwarded to legal counsel for review and subsequent submittal to the
Board for a signature. Captain Joe
Settles will be on hand at the meeting to answer any specific questions
about Task Force One.
- Lieutenant Eric Funkhouser finally received his
official start date at Bargersville Fire Department on March 1st. Because of this, we now have an opening
to fill for a Lieutenant’s position.
The next individual on the Lieutenant’s list is Tony Slusher, who
Chief Tibbetts will recommend to be promoted. This will then create an opening for an
Engineer. The next individual on the
Engineer’s list is Dale Saucier (currently full-time at Franklin Fire
Department), who Chief Tibbetts is recommending we extend a conditional
offer of employment to.
Additionally, we have started a part-time process in order to fill
two 12-hour positions that are currently open. The application period ends March 17th.
- As you know, the Station 51 project bids came in
UNDER budget! The original budget
for the construction portion of the project was $2,541,517 and the lowest
bidder (combination bid) came in at $2,370,458. Senefeld and Associates will be on hand
at the meeting to make their bid presentation and outline the rest of the
bid process leading up to the contract signing. If everything continues on as planned,
barring any unforeseen circumstances, construction should begin around the
1st of May.
About
a year ago, there was some discussion regarding the on-site management of the
Station 51 project and who would actually oversee it, whether it be the architects
or a 3rd party company. It is
probably time to ratify this decision.
To start, there will be two companies making a presentation regarding
this issue at the meeting. They are
Senefeld and Associates and the Kramer Corporation. If the Board feels that additional companies
should be sought, then this can happen at a later date.
- The pre-construction meeting for the Station 52
project is scheduled for this Wednesday, March 8th. Construction on that project is expected
to begin almost immediately thereafter.
- As eluded to a couple
of months ago, the department would like to make the official presentation
regarding the replacement of the back-up Engine at this month’s
meeting. According to the
department’s unofficial Strategic Plan and the Apparatus Rotation
Schedule, this particular piece of equipment is due for replacement this
year. Captain Casey Arkins (in
place of Chief Slauter who will be unable to attend the meeting) will be
on hand to make the presentation and answer any questions.
- The proposed Fire Protection Ordinance received
its final approval from the County
Commissioners at a
meeting late last month. The final
step before adoption is that it will go to the State for one last review
and subsequent approval, which is expected to happen within the next few
weeks.
- The engineering process for the Station 53 sewer
project is now underway. Crews have
been working on surveying property and other related items. No further information is available at
this time.
- That’s it for this month.…… Scott
