Southwest trip bonus
Taking
advantage once again of my Kelley Day at work, we took a trip to the Desert
Southwest. However, because I had a pre-existing trip to Florida scheduled
for business, we decided to marry them together into one extended vacation.
We started off in Tampa and visited Mandy's parents and brother as well as took
in a quick trip to Disney World. We then flew all the way to San Diego for
a two day stint there. While enroute, the pilot pointed out the site of
the Deepwater Horizon disaster. We could see all the rescue ships as well
as an oil sheen as far as you could see. While in San Diego, we visited
the San Diego Zoo and the Seaport Village. From there, we drove up to Palm
Springs and stayed there for a couple of days. We ran into Katy Perry and
her entourage who were all there for a wedding at the hotel we were staying at!
We took in a half-day trip to the Living Desert Wild Animal Park as well.
After Palm Springs, we headed out for Mojave, California for a day to visit the
Mojave Air and Space Port (where they launched SpaceShip One back in 2004.
We toured the facility which included an airplane graveyard and flight-line
restaurant (where we had breakfast). From Mojave we set out for Las Vegas
where we spent the balance of our trip. We did the usual Las Vegas things
while there and stayed at the Luxor Hotel and Casino on the Strip.
