The Great Flood of 2008
The
date may be cool, but the Great Flood of 2008 came without any warning and was
the worst flood in the area in nearly 100 years! It truly gives meaning to
the 100 year flood. Although the flooding was extremely widespread
throughout most of Central Indiana, the photos below are of the Mrs Curl Ice
Cream Shop and surrounding area. The flooding happened over a timeframe of
several hours following a twelve hour period of heavy rain that dumped around
eight to twelve inches in the region. Fortunately, the water receded quite
quickly, over two to three hours after the rain stopped. Then the cleanup
was under way which would span the next few days. Notice in the photos and
the video clip below that the water was never stagnate, it was moving through
the area at a fairly brisk rate, taking many items with it including the
dumpster, which was moved from the back of the store to its current location.
