Scott takes to the air in California
Scott
went out to Santa Barbara, California last week to participate in a three-day
beginner class on powered paragliding. The site was about two hours north
of Los Angeles at a park called Elings Park, which is about a mile inland from
the Pacific Ocean (which can be seen in the background of some of the photos
below). The first day was all paragliding (without the motor) and
consisted of seven flights (one of which resulted in a failed attempt). On
the second day, the weather did not cooperate, and on the third day, work was
concentrated on some advanced kiting techniques along with playing with
different motors. The first few pictures show a complete flight (by Scott
- in the yellow shirt) from the top of the hill to the landing field below.
The rest of the photos are of the training hill and some of the beach. The
last few photos are from Los Angeles (La Brea Tar Pits) and the climb-out out of
LAX on the Southwest Boeing 737. See if you can spot the Hollywood sign in
the last photo. The video clips below the photos are self-explanatory.
